TUBMAN-GARRETT  RIVERFRONT PARK

PROPOSED RESOLUTION 

The Board of Directors of the
Riverfront Development Corporation of Delaware
To Amend the Name of Riverfront Park
 

     WHEREAS, the Riverfront Development Corporation of Delaware (RDC) has developed a Park located on the Christina River between Market Street and Walnut Street in Wilmington and 

     WHEREAS, the Park is currently known as “Riverfront Park” and 

     WHEREAS, City Council by Resolution dated July 10, 1997 has recommended that the name of the Park be “Tubman-Garrett Park” in commemoration of the lives of Harriet Tubman and Thomas Garrett of Wilmington for their heroic participation in the underground railroad, and 

     WHEREAS, the Board believes that it is in the best interests of the overall Riverfront project that a Riverfront identity be preserved, and 

     WHEREAS, the Board is committed to cooperation between the City and the RDC, and respects the sentiments expressed in Council’s resolution. 

     NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Riverfront Development Corporation of Delaware that the Park in question shall hereafter be known as “Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park” and 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the lives and accomplishments of these two individuals shall be properly memorialized in a manner to be determined by the Board at a future time.
